Tyrrell Hatton, a golfer who can count himself among the elite group of players to have won on both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, has confirmed his presence at the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid, which takes place at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 26 to 29 September.
“I am really looking forward to playing in the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid”, said Hatton. “I’ve heard only great things about the track at Club De Campo and I always love visiting Spain. I am delighted to be playing in what sounds like will be a really great week with a strong field shaping up.”
The news means the Englishman joins a stellar lineup that includes the likes of his compatriot Tommy Fleetwood, a silver medallist at the 2024 Paris Olympics; France’s Matthieu Pavon, the defending champion after he conquered the Open de España in 2023; and Irishman Shane Lowry, a flagbearer for his nation at the Olympic Games, and Champion Golfer of the Year in 2019.
Currently ranked number 34 in the world, Tyrrell Hatton is the epitome of a player whose rise to fame has come through hard work and dedication, enjoying success at every level until earning himself a place among the best players in the world with one win on the PGA Tour and six on the DP World Tour, among others.
Hatton first picked up a club at the age of 3, and he was soon dreaming of becoming a European Tour player, inspired by trips with his parents to watch the nearby BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. He would go on to form a part of that tournament’s history.
The 32-year-old turned professional in 2011. It was the start of a fruitful career and he enjoyed early success on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour in 2011 and the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2012 before advancing to the Challenge Tour in 2013.
He eventually made his breakthrough to the big-time in 2016 when he fired a stunning 62 at St. Andrews to win his first tournament on the European Tour, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The following year he claimed two wins on the trot, successfully defending his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship before finishing top of the leaderboard the following week in Italy. His consolidation among the best players on the DP World Tour would come in 2019, when he claimed the Turkish Airlines Open by coming through a spectacularly intense six-man playoff.
His successful career continued on the PGA Tour with victory at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational, and his dream came true later the same year when he won his third Rolex Series title at Europe’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, the very tournament that inspired him to become a professional golfer as a young boy.
His consistency and results – which also include the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – earned him a place at the Ryder Cup in 2018, where he contributed to Europe’s triumphant victory in Paris. He also made the team in 2021 and 2023, when Europe won back the famous trophy at Marco Simone and he won three and half points from four matches.
