Another of the new faces at the 2024 ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid is that of charismatic English player Tyrrell Hatton, who will arrive in the Spanish capital intent on picking up his seventh DP World Tour title.
Hatton, who previously climbed to the heights of the Top 5 players in the world, has been one of the stalwarts of Europe’s Ryder Cup team in recent years, particularly thanks to the partnership he has formed with close friend Jon Rahm. The two of them have produced some of the best moments in recent editions of the event.
Coincidentally, it is the Spaniard who has surpassed him as the player with the most wins at Rolex Series events, the biggest tournaments on the DP World Tour (in terms of both money and points). Four of Hatton’s six titles in Europe are adorned with the words ‘Rolex Series’, and the man from Barrika now leads the way with five.
Tyrrell’s last win on the European Tour was over three years ago, when he lifted the trophy at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, but class is permanent and his game is still up their with the best in the world, as he proved with a top-10 finish at this year’s US Masters and a top-25 at the US Open, where only a bad first day kept him out of the fight for his first major.
Hatton’s passion, which is always close to boiling point, added to an aggressive game, makes for hugely entertaining viewing and fans are guaranteed a show as he goes pin-hunting on every hole while providing his own commentary on his handy work. Fireworks are guaranteed with this man on the prowl at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
The inclusion of Tyrrell Hatton in the ACCIONA Open de España comes after the announcement of a list of global superstars, a number of whom are icons of European golf and the Ryder Cup team, which will mean captain Luke Donald will be keeping a close eye on his boys in Madrid. Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood, all in the team in 2023, will be joined by defending champion Mathieu Pavon who, like many others, will be looking to earn himself a place in next year’s inter-continental showdown.
With over fifty top-ten finishes on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, he arrives in Madrid as a player you might say is worth the price of the ticket alone. This true star of world golf is one of the grittiest in the game, and he is hungry to add a title to his resumé which is becoming more prestigious every year. Welcome, Tyrrell!
