Marco Penge, the champion of the 2025 Open de España presented by Madrid, will be back at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 8 to 11 October as he bids for a second consecutive title and to enhance his place in the history of one of the oldest tournaments on the DP World Tour.
The English player’s performance last year was spectacular, but his route to the title was somewhat unusual for the Open de España; he claimed the crown with a 1-over par final round. However, the 72 on Sunday was in stark contrast to his spectacular previous 54 holes.
The Englishman was 16 under par after three rounds, laying the foundations for a triumph that earned him a place in a winners circle that includes many of the greatest names in the history of the sport.
Born in Horsham, England in 1998 to an Italian father, Marco Penge first tried his luck with football – of which he is a fervent fan – before fully focusing on golf, where he now has five titles under his belt.
The first two came in 2023, early in his career on the HotelPlanner Tour, at the Open de Portugal and the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final in Mallorca, perhaps foretelling something of a love affair with the Iberian Peninsula.
His big breakthrough came two seasons later with three DP World Tour wins in 2025, beginning with the Hainan Classic in late April, before claiming the Danish Golf Championship in mid-August and completing his triplet at the Open de España presented by Madrid in October.
The rewards of his victory in Spain were threefold. As well as claiming the century-old trophy, Marco earned himself the right to play in both the US Masters and The Open in 2026.
Following his dazzling 2025 season, Penge is now a regular on the PGA Tour, where he enjoyed a fourth place finish at the Valspar Championship in mid-March. When he returns to Spanish climes, the Englishman will be vying for a second straight win at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid and to consolidate England, with thirteen wins, as the country with the second-largest title haul in Open de España history.
