Seven of the players participating in the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid from 7 to 10 October travelled to the Dehesa de la Villa park to help Acciona with its environmental commitment to plant over 3,000 trees in the Community of Madrid by the end of the event.
Spaniards Adrian Otaegui, Alvaro Quiros and Sebastian García Rodríguez, and a group of international players comprising Italians Andrea Pavan and Francesco Laporta, Frenchman Joel Stalter and the Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti were all on hand for the symbolic event.
The European Tour players showed their support for the sustainable spirit at the event, which has done everything possible to become the first golf tournament with a positive impact. Growing the ‘lung’ of the Spanish capital is yet another part of the green philosophy at the heart of the competition.
The initiative is part of a plan to reduce emissions conceived by Acciona and the tournament itself. A range of measures that include the use of over 40 electric and hybrid vehicles for the official transport service and incentivising the use of vehicles with the ‘0 Azul’ environmental classification, electric mopeds and public transport.
These measures all form part of the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid and the world of golf’s commitment to sustainability and an environmentally friendly competition.
