Marco Penge has been crowned champion of the Open de España presented by Madrid. After a stratospheric round on moving day, the Englishman confirmed on Sunday that he is one of the most reliable golfers on the planet. He will take home the stunning cup that bears the name of so many golfing legends, including Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, and Jon Rahm himself.
However, Penge’s haul from his week in Madrid does not stop there. For the first time in the history of the event, the champion was granted qualification for the US Masters and The Open in 2026, two of golf’s four majors. The only player in the field on Sunday at Club de Campo who is already guaranteed a place in the two events is Jon Rahm, such is the value of the prize.
Direct entry to two of the biggest golfing events in the world was one of the big incentives of this Open de España. The tournament had never before granted its champion a reward of such magnitude. Marco Penge has just found the key to two of the most iconic stages in world golf.
