The tee times have been announced for the 2025 edition of the Open de España presented by Madrid. We can expect fireworks from the early hours of 9 October, and the thrills will continue throughout both Thursday and Friday at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
As has become tradition at the tournament, with the exception of last year, when he arrived late due to the recent birth of his daughter, Jon Rahm will be one of the first to tee his ball up on Thursday morning. At the event’s official presentation, Rahm was asked whom he would most like to play with and he promptly declared: “Shane Lowry, I’d like to thank him again for what he did at the Ryder Cup”. No sooner said than done; the Irishman will join the Basque in rounds one and two. Alongside them will be defending champion Angel Hidalgo, who went head-to-head with the Basque last year in Madrid and won. With all the pressure and responsibility that comes with such a match, it will be fascinating to see how he deals with defending a title for the first time. The Andalusian has admitted he is unsure how he will be feeling come Thursday in what will be a completely new experience for him. On the 10th tee at 09:30 in the morning, one of the matches of the championship will set off. On Friday, they will start at 14:00, prime time, with thousands of spectators expected to follow them.
On Thursday afternoon (13:30) and Friday morning (09:30), another of the field’s superstars will begin his campaign: Patrick Reed, aka Captain America. After a convincing debut in 2024, the American will be bidding for his first crown on the DP World Tour, bar the majors and WGC events. He will be joined by Alejandro del Rey and Joakim Lagergren.
This week, 21 Spaniards are in the field at Club de Campo. As well as the aforementioned marquee groups, home fans will also be keen to get a glimpse of the likes of 2021 champion Rafa Cabrera Bello. He will be joined by Haotong Li and Thorbjørn Olesen, three DP World Tour winners who never fail to entertain. They will tee off at 13:40 on Thursday and 09:10 on Friday.
The six-year wait to see Sergio Garcia return to the Spanish capital is finally over. The Borriol native will begin his quest for the title on Thursday and is sure to draw a large crowd of home fans. Anyone arriving early on Thursday morning will have the luxury of being able to watch Rahm’s match and then that of Sergio uninterrupted. Garcia will share his afternoon with Thomas Detry and Kristoffer Reitan, setting off at 14:00.
For those unable to make the trip to Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, the tournament will be live on Movistar Golf and RTVE, at similar times on both channels, although Movistar Golf will have an added 15-minute introduction before each day’s play and an extra half an hour of live post-round analysis from Club de Campo.
In total, there will be 20 hours of the best golf in the world to enjoy; on Thursday and Friday coverage runs from 14:00 to 19:00, on Saturday it will begin at 13:30, and at 12:30 for the final round. Fans won’t have to miss a single minute of the biggest week in Spanish golf.
