Sergio Garcia will once again be one of the big names teeing it up at the Open de España presented by Madrid, one of the most eagerly awaited events on the DP World Tour calendar. This year’s tournament will be played at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 8 to 11 October.
The golfer from Castellon has added his name to those of other big stars of European and world golf — including Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton, defending champion Marco Penge, and a strong Spanish contingent — guaranteeing fireworks on the fairways and greens of the renowned Madrid layout.
The return of the golfer from Castellon is huge news for Spanish fans, who will once again be able to enjoy watching one of the finest ball-strikers of this century in action. Champion of an unforgettable Open de España in 2002, Sergio García is now back with his sights set on a second title in a competition whose roll of honour includes many of golf’s greatest legends.
Sergio Garcia boasts one of the brightest careers in Spanish golf. The Borriol native has claimed no fewer than 16 victories on the DP World Tour, 11 on the PGA Tour and 2 on LIV Golf, as well as being champion of the US Masters Tournament in 2017, at that time becoming the third Spaniard to don the iconic green jacket after Severiano Ballesteros and José María Olazábal. Jon Rahm’s victory at Augusta would follow later, in 2023.
These achievements are the fruit of extraordinary consistency at the highest level. Between 1999 and 2020 Garcia played in 84 consecutive Majors, an exceptional streak that reflects an outstanding capacity for competitive resilience among the world elite. His career also includes nine Ryder Cup appearances, where he holds the record of 28.5 points scored, another historic statistic for a truly special player.
Sergio Garcia will return to the Madrid venue intent on fighting for the title once again and adding a new chapter to his extraordinary relationship with Spanish golf.
