The American Patrick Reed has joined the list of big names at this year’s Open de España presented by Madrid, which takes place at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 9 to 12 October.
With Jon Rahm and Sergio García already confirmed, the American player will be another of the star attractions at this historic tournament. He has nine PGA Tour victories to his name, including one at the US Masters in 2018, when he established himself as one of the best golfers on the planet.
Much more recently, Patrick Reed extended his love affair with Augusta National by finishing third at this year’s event shortly before a second place at the International Series Macau on the Asian Tour, once again demonstrating the quality of his game, regardless of his current ranking of 73 in the world.
At last year’s Open de España, the American finished tenth in a week that included two spectacular rounds of 66 and 68.
A huge fan of American Football, and supporter of the Houston Texans and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish , one of Patrick Reed’s favourite lines, coined by his wife Justine is “nerves just mean you’re prepared”.
At 34 years of age, Reed, who turned professional in 2011, has won nine times on the PGA Tour, a reflection of the quality of a player whose game began to flourish in 2013, when he finished atop the leaderboard at the Wyndham Championship. The win opened the floodgates for the American and he soon became one of the biggest names on the PGA Tour, winning the 2014 Desert Classic, the 2014 WGC – Cadillac Championship, the 2015 Tournament of Champions, and the 2016 Northern Trust Open, among others.
Two years later, Patrick Reed proved he has the mettle to win on the biggest stages with a one-shot victory over Ricky Fowler at the 2018 US Masters, where Jon Rahm finished fourth.
Following his greatest triumph, Texan ball-striker would go on to pick up titles at the 2019 Northern Trust and, for the second time the WGC – Cadillac Championship, in 2020, which some consider to be a major, before the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.
